About the retreat:
The week will include three art workshop sessions run by professional local artist, Jeanette Jobson. The tours included in the workshop are: the Avalon area of Newfoundland, including St. John’s, Cabot Tower, the lively George Street, Cape Spear, Dildo, Cupids, Brigus, and Quidi Vidi.
You will also get to experience a Newfoundland kitchen party which will give you the chance to be screeched in to become an honorary Newfoundlander.
Optional activities include visiting The Rooms or the Geo Centre in St. John’s visiting a seabird sanctuary, taking a whale watching tour or visiting the historic town of Trinity where the town becomes a living theater and you are surrounded by actors and historic buildings as the play comes to life.
The art workshop: you will have the opportunity to work with various media and experiences under the supervision of Jeannette, such as: out and about art, painting or drawing local Newfoundland scenes, and creating fish prints. Participating in the art work shop will provide you with a memento of your holiday that we are sure you will cherish for years to come.
You will be staying at the newly restored historic ocean front bed and breakfast, The Mallamoore House.
About your hosts, Susie & Wayne Moore:
Susie and Wayne are the owners of the Mallamoore House Bed and Breakfast. They will endeavor to do everything they can to make your holiday one of the best experiences you have had. From preparing your rooms, to making a hearty breakfast at the start of every day, to assisting with transportation to locations and events, to ensuring you have a comfortable and peaceful place to unwind and reflect on the activities of the day, Susie and Wayne will have it covered when you stay at Mallamoore House B&B in Heart’s Content, Newfoundland.
About the artist:
Jeanette owns the Baccalieu Art Gallery located in Heart’s Content, Newfoundland.
Jeanette is a visual artist who lives in Newfoundland and Labrador. Jeanette studied fine art under Tom Greenshields, R.A., in the UK, with an emphasis on classical drawing techniques. She has also devoted time, at the board and mentor levels, to the local and international arts communities. She also teaches workshops in classical techniques of drawing and painting for beginner and advanced artists.
Her work is in the collection of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and has been exhibited in The Rooms as well as being in private collections in Canada, USA, England, Australia and New Zealand. More on the retreat:
Cost for the week $1,000.00.
Breakdown of the cost: $300.00 per person for the art course to be paid to the art diector, Jeanette. This will include all materials. $700 per room for accommodation, including a daily breakfast and transportation to the various events and activities that are part of the retreat.
Any additional activities not included in the retreat are optional and, therefore, not included in the price of the retreat.
Dinners and lunches are extra, but you are all welcome to use the kitchen at Mallamoore House.
The retreat will start the morning of Aug 19th and we will wrap up after lunch on Aug 25th. The exact schedule is to be announced.
